Before You Climb
Everything you need to know before stepping onto Africa's rooftop — altitude advice, packing, permits, health and mountain support.
Uhuru Peak is 5,895 m. We build acclimatisation days into Lemosho, Machame and Northern Circuit routes and use a 'pole pole' pace. Diamox is optional — discuss with your doctor.
You don't need to be an athlete, but 3–4 months of hill-walking and cardio training make a real difference. Bring a signed medical clearance if you are 60+, have asthma, heart or blood-pressure conditions.
4-season sleeping bag, waterproof shell, insulated jacket, gaiters, gloves, headlamp. We rent quality gear in Moshi if you prefer to fly light.
Park fees, rescue fees, camping/hut fees and VAT are all included. Travel insurance covering trekking to 6,000 m and helicopter evacuation is mandatory.
We follow KPAP guidelines: fair porter wages, weight limits and three meals a day for the crew. Suggested tips are shared in your pre-trip pack.
Guides carry radios and satellite phones. Our Moshi office is on call day and night, with rescue partners at KINAPA and Kilimanjaro SAR.
